Cedar Realty CEO Faces Sexual Harassment Lawsuit
Cedar Realty’s CEO namely Bruce Schanzer is now facing charges of pay discrimination and sexual harassment as filed by their former Chief Operating Officer namely Nancy H. Mozzachio. It will now be all up to a Brooklyn judge to either proceed the lawsuit or not.
Based on the lawsuit Nancy Mozzachio filed on November 2 to CEO Schanzer, she says that she finds Schanzer always leering at women as well as making comments that are not appropriate to them while in the workplace. In addition to being called ‘babe’, Nancy Mozzachio is also being commented on her breasts by Schanzer. While holding a coffee cup from Dunkin Donuts, he said allegedly that she has double Ds today. Furthermore, Schanzer is also accused of giving groping hugs that are unwanted to the one filing the case.
By the time that Nancy H. Mozzachio filed her case to the court for pay disparity and sexual harassment, the company has then decided that it be best for them to fire her. After she was found out to be seeking some outside legal help from Cedar to discuss how she can go about filing her sexual harassment case, she was then terminated in February 2016. According to her, the meeting was canceled and then she was then terminated on the coming week.
Allegations were then investigated by Cedar Realty after a 2015 external investigator probe. Even if these investigations were being done by the company, Nancy Mozzachio says that the investigator always stepped back when they were allegations of sexual harassment to Schanzer by the female employees. The Wall Street Journal has even made mention about one of the employees being asked by Schanzer what color of underwear she is wearing. In order for the investors not to know about this matter, the company has decided to pay the people who have filed some complaints against Schanzer about their being sexually harassed.
The company has obtained some success because of Nancy Mozzachio and she as well. While she started off in the year 2003 as the director of leasing and in the year 2004 as the vice president of leasing, she then worked her way up until the year 2014 where she became the chief operating officer. In terms of her complaints, the company is giving her only a smaller bonus and a lower salary as chief operating officer in comparison to their chief financial officer that should not be the case as she must be the one receiving a higher amount. Of course, for Cedar Realty, they are not true and are very much satisfied that after the board has done their investigations, the allegations were of no merit.
After considering the case of no merit, Nancy H. Mozzachio is not going to be backing down from it just yet. Until this day, she will fight for what is right and in providing female employees a safer place to work in.
